We are happy to welcome you again at DOCUMATION in Paris this year! We present version 5.9 of our XML based Content Management System TCToolbox. Get an inside view to a complete workflow in technical documentation: Creating, Managing, Translating and Publishing. The different steps will be presented by Ovidius and our partner Across.

Schneider Electric has been using an SGML-based component management system for the publication of technical documentation since 1998. In 2007/2008 the entire system was updated and migrated to XML. The XML component management system (XCMS) is used by 100 authors on 10 locations in 4 countries to create documentation as PDF and complex Help sets in 8 languages. One of the core features of the system is the support of re-use of information units.
In 2008 it was decided to provide more detailed information about the Schneider products in the web in order to streamline the information delivered in paper catalogs: the Enhanced Product Data Sheet (EPDS).  It was planned to generate the contents and configuration of the EPDS within the XCMS and publish directly to the Web CMS.
A first prototype showed that the linear and hierarchical re-use function used in the XCMS  was not suitable for configuring the information for the EPDS. The solution was  to develop a matrix-based re-use function. This could be implemented without any changes to the system core, resulting in a quick and cost-efficient solution.
